City Manager's Message

As the economic picture continues to fluctuate, the City of Casa Grande holds on a steady course to maintain quality services even with limited resources. The city had the foresight to plan for the long-term knowing the economy has its peaks and valleys.

We are proud to have accomplished several outstanding projects which enhance the lives of those who live, work, and recreate in Casa Grande. Late last year, the $23 million Public Safety Facility was completed and the Police Department and Fire Administration moved into the new building. The former station will be renovated to better accommodate our Communications Center as well as act as a downtown Police substation. An additional Fire Station to serve the northeast section of the city was built bringing our total to four. A new Municipal Courthouse was completed in April. It boasts many technical features and security options that were not available to our court before making it a safe environment for staff as well as users. We completed an expansion of the wastewater treatment facility to service 12 million gallons a day from 6 million gallons a day. This expansion should last us for the next decade and has positioned our community to welcome economic growth. We also completed the remodel and new gymnasium at Len Colla Recreation Center. This has allowed an expansion of our recreational programs. Money for these projects was obtained through general obligation bonds voted on by Casa Grande voters in 2008, with the exception of the Courthouse which was paid for by various sources.

Having completed, or nearly completed, the projects we had planned the last two years, we are now concentrating on other areas that will continue to make Casa Grande the “Place to Be.” Work continues on revitalizing our downtown area. This area is the heart of “old Casa Grande” and has many exciting possibilities. Continuing with our goal to keep Casa Grande a vital and forward moving city, revitalization has begun. Streets, sidewalks, parks, and other amenities are in the planning stages. Traffic and pedestrian movement in the area is being strategized to make it a viable and vibrant area. Public input has been very helpful and store owners are excited about the possibilities. Public engagement through all the planning stages is crucial and will be ongoing.

The City of Casa Grande is also courting new business and developing negotiations with several exciting additions to our industrial areas and retail/commerce areas. Our newest economic development venture, “Think Big, Think Casa Grande,” has already brought interested investors and businesses in to Casa Grande. We launched our “Think Big. Think Casa Grande” campaign this year which includes its own website, www.thinkcasagrande.com. We look forward to reaping its rewards in the future.

As the City of Casa Grande awaits easing of financial pressures, we will continue to find new and innovative ways to keep our city running smoothly. We are constantly on the lookout for better cost-effective ways of managing our day-to-day services. So far, it appears to be working. We know that things will not go back to the way they were, but we want to make sure our city doesn’t become complacent, but, instead, explores the possibilities which can make us “The Place to Be.”
