POSITION DESCRIPTIONS
INSTRUCTOR
An employee of this class is responsible for developing and administering a comprehensive recreational program in instructor’s area of expertise; assuring that program objectives are accomplished; exercising independent judgment and ingenuity in accomplishing program objectives and meeting the needs of the participants enrolled in the class; cleaning and securing the facility at which the program is located and working in direct contact with the City of Casa Grande Community Services Department.
EXAMPLE OF WORK PERFORMED
Supervises and directs the class or activity and all recreation aides in the program; insures that all participants in the program get the maximum amount of instruction to reach the goals of the class; outlines a program to obtain goals to be reached at the completion of the program and develops a weekly lesson plan. Employee to be supervised by Recreation Program Coordinator/Programer in charge of summer programs. Employees are accountable for the efficient conduct of Recreation activities in accordance with departmental policies.
QUALIFICATIONS
Extensive knowledge and experience in classes and/or programs to be offered; ability to work well with children; some supervisory experience and some knowledge in first aid and safety precautions.
RECREATION LEADER
Directs and supervises the activities and the use of the facility at the program location; organizes and directs comprehensive programs for all elementary school age children in the area; confers with the Recreation Department on all programs, field trips, etc., to be implemented in the program.
EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED
Organizes a broad scope of activities for the program such as table games, outdoor play, bingo, story time, field trips, special events, different types of arts and crafts, etc. Must be somewhat innovative in giving instruction to the different levels of participants; is held responsible for cleaning up and securing building and area; responsible for developing weekly lesson plans. Employees are accountable for the efficient conduct of Recreation time activities in accordance with departmental policies.
KNOWLEDGE
Ability to develop and administer a recreation program suited to the needs of the area; ability to plan, organize, coordinate and direct the activities and personnel in the well-rounded recreational program.
QUALIFICATIONS
Experience in conducting a diverse recreational program for various age groups; some supervisory experience, and some knowledge in first aid and safety precautions.
RECREATION AIDE
Assist in organizing and conducting various recreational activities in the program; promote and develop interest in the different activities.
EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED
Works directly with the instructor and/or Recreation Leader and assists as needed; issue and collect games, arts and crafts supplies, equipment, etc. Teach basic skills of games, keep score, set up areas for activities and maintain order in program; clean and secure area used during activities.
KNOWLEDGE
Ability to work with youth and/or adults as well as individuals or large groups; some knowledge in first aid and safety precautions; some knowledge of scorekeeping, rules of various games and activities; preparation for use of such areas.
QUALIFICATIONS
Demonstrated experience in Parks and Recreation activities and ability to assist with organized recreational programs.
SCHOOL-AGE CHILD CARE PROGRAM
SITE DIRECTOR
Must be at least 21 years of age
Responsible for organization and leading of a variety of activities for school-aged children and the supervision of the child care program. Employee organizes, promotes, teaches and conducts a variety of recreation activities such as art and crafts, sports and games, special events and other recreational and educational activities. Employee maintains records, inventories, reports and information and maintains consistent discipline procedures as well as safety considerations. Please note: Upon hire, employees will be required to attend training for certification in CPR and first aid, Tuberculin tests and fingerprinting are also required by the Arizona Department of Health Services, as this program will be licensed for daycare.
RECREATION INSTRUCTORS
Must be at least 18 years of age
Responsible for organizing, promoting, teaching and conducting a variety of recreational activities such as arts and crafts, sports and games, study time, special events and other recreational and education activities. Prepares reports for the Site Director and assists with the maintenance of records, inventories, reports and information. Also maintains consistent discipline procedures as well as safety considerations. Must be able to work effectively with school officials, teachers, custodians and parents and maintain effective working relationships with employees, program participants and the general public. Please Note: Upon hire, employees will be required to attend training for certification in CPR and first aid, Tuberculin tests and fingerprinting are also required by the Arizona Department of Health Services, as this program will be licensed for daycare.
